I am thrilled that moly_x will be exhibiting at Minnesota Center of Book Arts (MCBA), between mid-January through March 2011. It's coming up! This is a great venue, and this exhibit could mean some wonderful opportunities for other exhibitions around the country, and possible grants. This is a very receptive community.

I would like a few of these great books from this group. These books do not have to be completed. If you have a book right now, would you consider sending it to me. It will be out of circulation through March, but it will get some wonderful attention. I will guarantee it's safe return, or delivery to the next artist on the list.

MCBA does a great job of documenting their shows, so you will have a nice record. Whoever is in the book may add another credit to her/his resumé. We will continue to look for other similar venues for moly_x exhibitions. There are many book art institutions like this around the country, and there are many university book arts, and illustration programs.

I have dreamed of this exhibit since we started this little project.

Ok, well I found I had a little time yesterday after all ( a cancelled appointment always a bonus for moly time :-) ) , here is winter, a much prettier winter than the grey overcast damp thing we are having.

Well that is my last entry, and this little book will be coming home to you for the final time........it has been fun, I am glad that you finally joined the moly exchange world and hope that if you join in any other exchanges you think of me :-)

Hi Deb, your book has arrived safely.... I can't begin to tell you how glad I am to have the chance to make my final entries in your moly, it felt very strange having mine home and finished and yours still unfinished....
Thank you for the Diary / art journal.... I must admit I know nothing about Australian artists, they are just not taught here I guess.....I love the colour and energy and variety of the work in the journal, thanks so much for sending it :-)
I will get on to my autumn and winter pages sometime soon, we certainlty have enough icy chilly weather around to inspire the winter pages at the moment!

Your gruesome goblin gave rise to my slithery she serpent ,who led me to the skull headed snake Harajuka girl,which then had me searching for an image to calm my nerves (it is the snake season here after all!) so finally, the traditional maiden in reflective mood.

I have worked out that you will have 6 pages in 2, 3 page slots with one entry from me in the middle......or you could have just one more entry of 4 pages.....do you have a preference? that doesn't sound logical but its how it seems to have worked it out.... I can extend this image a little more so that we have just one four page entry each left to do.....and then that will be the end of my book ! wow!

its raining, I am at home with a poorly dog and a friend has cancelled our date today......so I finished my entry...the paper seemed to have more pattern in it than any of the others, which it more difficult to 'fight' and working against my own entry was strange but i really enjoyed the challenge. I hope you like it. Summer Willows gently waving on river banks is what I was aiming for :-)

Hi Lynne! I've started back on your book today, with this image of our son and his then girlfriend( a couple of years ago when he was a Goth :) As you'll see on my flickr page,I've been experimenting with backgrounds as I just can't make it work on that red/grreen/blue/gold floral paper.Would you mind if I used a diff. background? This isn't pasted in-still experimenting.It's only 1/2 the space,the rest of your paper is still there for the 2nd figure.

spinal surgery on my moleskine...a new one for comparison....I'm not sure how long it will last, but at least the pages aren't bulging out now, and it allows for a few more additions of collage.

Hello Kitty is the bridge to some pink paper for some "Kawaii" harajuku...venture into this area if you feel brave enough :-) I have left the page definitions ambigous so that you can do 3 or 4 pages....or more if you feel inspired.

Hi Lynne! As we seem to be in a pink (not normally a fave colour of mine) spring mood,I thought I'd continue the theme.I used this pretty paper-not sure if the flowers are peonies or cherry blossoms,but my trees were inspired by Hiroshige's 'Plum Park in Kameido' 1857 woodblock print, from his 100 famous scenes of Edo.

Match made in heaven.

I had a day all to myself.....no other demands, so I did your moleskine..........please don't feel I have rushed it, or that I am rushing you, its not my intention.

The washi paper really adds something to it.....perhaps makes it a little to easy to make things look beautiful.

I have some old sunprints that i think i am going to use in combination with the washi paper....they are pretty and just sitting in my drawer so I will go for it. I have looked at the posca pens..gorgeous as they are i dont think I will invest in any more art materials, so collage is the way i will go......is that Ok with you? or would you like me to paint ?

OK....I went with collage for my first try. I found out that gold pen works really well, I may be braver on the 'actual pages' but this is fun for a start :-)

Washi paper

I ordered some washi paper and it has arrived! It is the first I have ever touched.....its a little thicker than I thought it would be, and a lovely feel. I think that the moleskines will be quite thick at the end of their travels and a real riot of colour.

I will have to experiment a little before I stick any in my book, and I think the way for me to go is collage for the faces, as painting on this paper may be challenging......but whatever happens its going to be fun!

I will make a start on my front pages this week, we don't actually need a sign in page I suppose, so I will use those pages as a chance to experiment............

An extension of the Moleskine Exchange, this blog will follow two artists progress in a Japanese fold Moleskine sketchbook exchange.

Each artist will set off with a small Japanese (accordian) folded Moleskine. Creating a drawing, collage, or painting, then send on to the next artist. Each artist will draw on a couple of spreads (3-4 pages) then send it on to the next artist. When the artists book is filled, it will be returned to the owner with images created by artist around the world. Each artist has a month to make an entry. The outcome will be a pleasant and surprising adventure, as artists are encouraged to interact and merge their art with others.

The concept:

1. The artists start with the Japanese fold Moleskine - Name, address, email address written in book.

2. Each artist gets 1 month to make a sketchbook entry, and mail it to the next person. The order is listed to the right.

3. Each artist will do 3-4 pages each round.

4. Artists are encouraged to interact with other images in the book. Please be respectful.

5. When the book is full, when one side of the unfolded book is filled, the book will be sent back to its original owner. That artist may continue by buying a new book and sending it to the next person.

6. If a person decides not to continue, she will simply keep her book when it comes back to her. She should email all of the participants to say she is not going to continue. We will decide, then, if we want to find a new person.

7. Please communicate regularly via email. Let each person know that you have received/sent the book. The goal is to have a dialogue. Any comments and questions are welcome.
